Unlike previous Digimon stories, there are three different types of Digivice in play, each with their own special purposes. Quite simply each one is built mainly for a different type of evolution (though it is in theory possible to use the other methods with a little finagling.)
D-Jewels: The D-Jewels are rings that allow for Digivolution when used in combination with a digivice. There are three forms of Digivolution Rings.
D-Cell: This Digivice is the only one that can use Digivolution Rings. They take the form of flip phones. They at the start only allow digivolution into Champion, though Ultimate is available later on.
D-Gauntlet: An armored glove digivice. It is the one that can use Armor Rings. For each Armor in a Digidestined's possession, all of the Armor forms are strengthened. Four is the maximum you can have before the user gets into Ultimate territory, and eight is the maximum altogether. There is no way to get Mega level with the normal rings.
D-Coder: A smartphone like digivice that allows DigiXros when using Xros Rings. Its the only one that can use Xros Rings, which likewise are the only rings it can use. It is initiated by putting in a code on the phone. The two or three components is champion level, with four to six being ultimate. Six is the maximum that can be normally used with a D-Coder.

- Evolution Rings: They allow straightforward digivolution.
- Armor Rings: Armor Rings allow for Armor Evolution. Each individual ring represents on of the eight Digi-Mentals, with a the Crest of the ring engraved on it. Each Armor D-Jewel represents a single egg.
- Xros Rings: These rings allow the user to cause DigiXros.
